White Island
This is one of the very few original games out there for mobile devices that I deem legit. White Island, a mystery puzzle game, created by VisualShower sure does stand out. But, before I continue, here's a short No-Spoilers summary of the story. It is a mystery game after all. (Insert cliche tongue emoticon)
White Island, named such because of the plethora of white lilies which infest the entire island, holds the secret to the many disappearances of people which happen every year. These lilies may be the key to solving the many disappearances or they may just be the cause. Four college students, whom their professor, obsessed with the island, ends up becoming one of the many missing, decide to uncover the truth of his whereabouts, yet stumble into something bigger than they could have possibly imagined. Hunted down by an unknown killer with an unknown agenda, they must do all they can to survive and uncover the secrets the island holds. Will they come out alive and uncover the island's secrets? Will the hunter catch his prey or will they succumb to the mysterious white lilies.
Now that you've been caught up, you probably realize it's not your average, run of the mill, innocent tap addiction you're probably used to with popular games like angry birds and candy crush. This game is dark, and it's great! It's a find the picture game, but it feels like much more! Unlike most "Find the picture" genres, the game doesn't really tell you what to find. Most of the time, it's all pretty much well implied. As you go about the story, discovering clues, solving puzzles, and creating makeshift solutions in order to survive scenarios, you also have conversation with characters and choices to make, which will either get you ahead or may just get you killed. However, the game's not really reliant on those choices. No matter what you do, characters WILL die no matter what. So, those choices really are just to pass to the next stage.
Honestly, the artwork is great, the graphics are well detailed, and the game is just well done! The storyline was well thought out and the game isn't impossible to complete without spending money on in-game currency. It's dark and compelling plot keeps you coming back to finish each episode. You heard that right... Unfortunately, It's done by episode. However, the next episode is free after 3 days from completing the previous episode. And, yes. There is an in-game currency that you have to buy in order to use things like a jump to location map or to use hints. However, as I mentioned earlier, the game does not hinder if you don't use those "in-game pay to use" features. It's definitely refreshing to find such a nicely done game on mobile platforms which doesn't exist to separate you from your hard-earned cash. I absolutely recommend everyone reading this to give it a try!
